The catch is that the return trip is uphill on snow-covered paths. It is manageable but noticeable after a long day of skiing. Bring shoes with good traction — the paths can be slippery.

Getting to Schanze from Tokyo and Iiyama

The standard route from Tokyo is the Hokuriku Shinkansen to Iiyama Station (approximately 2 hours). From there, Schanze offers free pick-up when you book directly with the lodge — a meaningful perk, since the alternative is a taxi or bus to the village.

If you book through a third-party platform (Booking.com, Agoda, etc.), confirm whether the free pick-up is still available or if you will need to arrange your own transport from Iiyama Station.
